Scrappy

I've been working hard on a very large crochet afghan.
(7 feet or so)

It is made up of granny squares and 20+ different colors. This of course means I have an abundance of scrap yarn.

And I have an issue with throwing any sort of left over yarn away. Even the smallest little ball of it. So I decided to whip up a quick baby blanket with my scraps. It is essentially one giant granny square with a shell edging (my favorite edging). Here are the details:

Hook Used: Size I/5.5mm
Finished Blanket Size: 35" Square

Yarn Used:

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids:
Purple
Eggplant
Kelly Green
Mustard
Colonial Blue
Pink
Dusty Purple
Magenta
Terracotta
Sapphire

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Baby:
Little Boy Blue

Red Heart Ltd. Soft Yarn Solids:
Really Red

Loops & Threads Impeccable Solids:
Aran

Shell Edging:
You can find the pattern for the shell edging on Lucy's (Attic24) blog here. You will need to scroll half way down the page, past the crochet bag instructions, to the "Shell Edging."

That should about do it!
Oh, and another picture of the finished blanket before I go:

Garden Squares II

I just can't get enough of that scalloped edging!

Well I have officially finished my second Granny Squares afghan. This one is for my mom. They aren't the colors I would've picked out (shh, don't tell her that!) but I actually think it turned out pretty nice!

Here are the official details:

1) The Pattern for the Summer Garden Squares can be found here.

2) If you like the scalloped edging that is finishing my blankets you can find that pattern on Lucy's (Attic24) blog here. You will need to scroll half way down the page, past the crochet bag instructions, to the "Shell Edging."

3) There are a total of 40 squares in my blanket. Each square is made up of 5 rounds.

4) I used a size 5.5mm/I hook.

5) The yarn I used was:

Caron Simply Soft -1 skein (315yds) in Country Blue

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids -3.25 skeins (552.5yds) in Linen

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2 skeins (372yds) in Lichen

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2skeins (372yds) in Aquarium

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2.25skeins (418.5yds) in Chamois

In total I used 2,030yds of worsted weight yarn for this blanket, and it cost me right around $27.50 to make.

I think that covers most of the details! Now I am off to make my third (yes third) Granny Squares blanket for my Grandma who has decided her living room needs a pretty crocheted afghan too! I couldn't hardly tell her no though as she has knit me two living room afghans :)

Complete!

A while back I had posted a picture of the latest crochet project I was working on. In the picture were four measly granny squares. It didn't look very exciting.

But about 40 more squares later (and a whole 'lotta edging too I might add) I finished my first granny squares afghan!

And within minutes of placing the blanket on my bed, this little girl decided the blanket would henceforth be hers:

(I'm still working out how to tell her it's actually mine)

My favorite part is that scalloped edging. It was easy to do and finishes off a blanket in a most lovely fashion!

The pattern is compliments of Lucy, over at Attic24. She has a wonderful tutorial with lots of pictures if you are a newer crocheter like myself.

Right now I am working on ANOTHER Garden Squares afghan for my mom. She took one look at my finished blanket and said, "If I buy you yarn will you make one for me?"
A day or so later my grandmother informed me she ripped out the knit blanket she was working on and wondered if I'd use the yarn to crochet HER a Garden Square blanket.

I've got a lot of crocheting ahead of me.
