Finished (FINALLY!)

The Triple B, in all it's colorful goodness.

I have been waiting forever to be able to share this with you!
It has been sitting all finished except for the last 2 rounds of edging for a few weeks now. Last night I finally sat down and completed it.

I am so in love!
(and for the record those pretty dangly things won't be staying behind the crib. I originally had our rocking chair in that corner, and haven't had a chance to move the dangly stuff/pictures yet.)

This blanket is a whopping 4.25 feet wide x 6.5 feet long!
I made it this way because the husband is just shy of 6 feet and I wanted him to be able to snuggle up in it when holding the baby. (All 5'1" of me did not need it quite this big)

Here are some details of the blanket plus some more detail shots:
Hook Size: I
Finished Measurements: 51"x79"

Yarn Used:
Lion Bran Vanna's Choice Baby:
Duckie
Sweet Pea
Little Boy Blue
Gold Fish
Pink Poodle
Aqua

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solid's & Heather's:
Purple
Eggplant
Kelly Green
Mustard
Fern
Colonial Blue
Pink
Dusty Purple
Magenta
Terracotta
Sapphire

Loops & Threads Impeccable Solids:
Aran
Light Fern

Red Heart Ltd. Soft Yarn Solids:
Really Red

I only used 1 skein of each color yarn (all 20 colors!) with yarn left over in each ball.
(Hence why I made scrappy a while back.)

The reason I went with acrylics?
1) I don't have a problem with Acrylic. If you look carefully you'll find that many brands are super soft and cuddly.
2) Inexpensive. This is a blanket for a baby. I fully expect for there to be lots of unpleasantness spewed onto this blanket, so spending $100+ seemed silly.
(for the record I spent approx. $40-45 dollars)
3) Machine Washable. For the above reasons.
4) Lots of color choices. I wanted this blanket to explode with color. And I think it does :)

Now for a few more detail shots:

Now to wait (impatiently) for 3 weeks until I find out the sex of the baby. Then I can get down to some serious baby clothes knitting!

Garden Squares II

I just can't get enough of that scalloped edging!

Well I have officially finished my second Granny Squares afghan. This one is for my mom. They aren't the colors I would've picked out (shh, don't tell her that!) but I actually think it turned out pretty nice!

Here are the official details:

1) The Pattern for the Summer Garden Squares can be found here.

2) If you like the scalloped edging that is finishing my blankets you can find that pattern on Lucy's (Attic24) blog here. You will need to scroll half way down the page, past the crochet bag instructions, to the "Shell Edging."

3) There are a total of 40 squares in my blanket. Each square is made up of 5 rounds.

4) I used a size 5.5mm/I hook.

5) The yarn I used was:

Caron Simply Soft -1 skein (315yds) in Country Blue

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids -3.25 skeins (552.5yds) in Linen

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2 skeins (372yds) in Lichen

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2skeins (372yds) in Aquarium

Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Ways - 2.25skeins (418.5yds) in Chamois

In total I used 2,030yds of worsted weight yarn for this blanket, and it cost me right around $27.50 to make.

I think that covers most of the details! Now I am off to make my third (yes third) Granny Squares blanket for my Grandma who has decided her living room needs a pretty crocheted afghan too! I couldn't hardly tell her no though as she has knit me two living room afghans :)

Details

(photo of my mom's in progress granny squares blanket)

So I have had quite the response on my finished Summer Garden Squares blanket! Thanks so much for all the nice comments :)

There were a few questions asked about the blanket itself and I thought this would be the easiest way to answer them.

So:

1) You can find the pattern for the scalloped edging on Lucy's (Attic24) blog here. You will need to scroll half way down the page, past the crochet bag instructions, to the "Shell Edging."

2) Here is a breakdown of the yarn I used:

Caron Simply Soft -1 skein (315yds) in heathered plum

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Baby -1.5 skeins (255yds) in sweet pea

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids -1.5 skeins (255yds) in light grey

Loops & Threads Impeccable Solids - 2 skeins (536yds) in aran

Red Heart Ltd. Soft Yarns Solids - 2 skeins (512yds) in Sea Foam

In total I used 1,873 yards of various acrylic yarns.
I chose acrylic over wool because I live in a household with two dogs, and machine washing my blankets whenever I need to is a must.

I purchased most of this yarn for $2.50 a skein and in total I spent right around $23.50 to make this afghan.

I think that should do it! Now I am off to finish another row of squares for my mom's blanket. Fingers crossed it will be done sometime next week!
